NHL Partners with SAP on Advanced Data Package

“The NHL took a giant leap into the world of hockey analytics Friday with the introduction of a new online presentation featuring 45 new “fancy stats.” And the league is doing so in partnership with business software giant SAP — whose co-founder, Hasso Plattner, is the Sharks majority owner — as the provider of the technology and design that enables the move. The new categories available [now] at NHL.com show everything from total shot attempts — previously known as Corsi, but not in the NHL’s package — to penalties taken and penalties drawn. Later phases of the stats will have visualization features that show, for example, a goalies-eye view of where shots come from and what the save percentage is in each area”
